The Power of a Team

The spirit of the Olympics has us thinking about one of our favorite commercials from Nike.  In the mid-90’s, they ran their now infamous, “If you let me play” sports commercials featuring young girls listing the empowering benefits of playing sports and being on a team. http://sportsgirlsplay.com/classic-nike-ad-if-you-let-me-play/

The commercials touted benefits of girls involved in sports (more self confidence, more likely to be involved in positive relationships and not get pregnant) but one thing we appreciated the most was that when you made a team you knew you belonged. You were valued for your abilities and what you contributed to the success of the team. Belonging without trying to “fit in” is a priceless gift in life and every girl should have this experience.
